Detective Holmes is dressed in his characteristic deerstalker hat, a turned-up collar coat, and is smoking a calabash meerschaum pipe. The pipe features a floral knurl between the shank and the light amber-colored bent stem. It is a great pipe for Sherlock Holmes collectors.

A knurl is a piece of solid block meerschaum designed in either a carved or smooth finish. It fits on the shank of the meerschaum pipe and serves as an attractive extension. A knurl makes the shank longer thus increasing the overall length of the pipe. With this extension the smoke has further to travel with more time to cool down before reaching the end of the mouthpiece. Knurls on our meerschaum pipes have a Teflon threaded connector making it easy to remove when cleaning the pipe.

This meerschaum pipe is hand-carved from genuine 100% solid block meerschaum, and it is imported directly from central Turkey. After carving the pipe, it is dipped in beeswax to provide a protective coating, which also helps to draw out smoke particles and tar. The pipe will change color over time as you smoke it. The stem is made out of a special Amberoid acrylic, which provides a great finished look and long-lasting durability.
