Meerschaum Lined Poker African Pipewood Pipe - This is a huge pipe that is lightweight for its size and a perfect fit for the pipe smoker with a large hand. The pipe is a sitting pipe with a rustic dark finish and a deep bowl that is lined with solid block African meerschaum. A solid metal fitting is in the long shank and attaches to a wide vulcanite stem. The Kilimanjaro rhinoceros logo is stamped in white on the side of the black saddle stem.

Stamped "Poker" and "Made in Tanganyika" with the model number 344 on the side of the shank, this is an authentic and rare one of a kind pipe from Africa.

In 1955 Kenyan businessmen from Nairobi established the Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation after a meerschaum mine was discovered close to the surface on Mount Kilimanjaro. The meerschaum from this part of East Africa was known to be tougher, less porous and priced less than Turkish meerschaum. Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged and became known as Tanzania in October of 1964. The company closed soon after.

Although the pipe is over a half century old it is unsmoked in brand new pristine condition. The pipe comes with its original box which does show a bit of wear and tear.
