Meerschaum Lined Billiard African Pipewood Pipe - This is an extra large pipe that is lightweight for its size and an ideal fit for the pipe smoker with a big hand. The deep bowl is lined with solid block African meerschaum. The pipe has a rustic, natural color finish. A solid metal fitting is in the long shank that attaches to a wide vulcanite stem. The Kilimanjaro rhinoceros logo is stamped in white on the side of the black saddle stem.

Stamped "Kilimanjaro" and "Made in Tanganyika" with the model number 104 on the underside, this is an authentic one of a kind pipe that is truely a unique find.

In 1955 Kenyan businessmen from Nairobi established the Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation after a meerschaum mine was discovered close to the surface on Mount Kilimanjaro. The meerschaum from this part of East Africa was known to be tougher, less porous and priced less than Turkish meerschaum. Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged and became known as Tanzania in October of 1964. The company closed soon after.

Although the pipe is over a half century old it is unsmoked in brand new pristine condition. The pipe comes with its original box which shows a little bit of wear and tear. This is a great collectible tobacco pipe as well as a great smoking pipe.
