Billiard African Briar Meerschaum Lined Pipe - Straight Stem

Billiard African Briar Meerschaum Lined Pipe - Straight Stem - Featuring a deep bowl lined with solid block African meerschaum, this unique African billiard bowl pipe is extra-large. To highlight its inherent hue, the pipe has a smooth finish with a faint polish. The pipe bowl and lengthy shank are surrounded by horizontal lines in the wood grain. For the smoker who likes a big pipe, this one is ideal because it is lightweight for its size. A metal fitting joins the long, thick shank to a broad, vulcanite straight saddle stem. The side of the straight black saddle stem bears a white stamp of the Kilimanjaro rhinoceros logo.

Stamped "Kilimanjaro" with the model number 102 on one side of the shank and "Made in Tanganyika" on the other side, this is an authentic one of a kind African pipe that is truely a unique find.

In 1955 Kenyan businessmen from Nairobi established the Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation after a meerschaum mine was discovered close to the surface on Mount Kilimanjaro. The meerschaum from this part of East Africa was known to be tougher, less porous and priced less than Turkish meerschaum. Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged and became known as Tanzania in October of 1964. The company closed soon after.

Although the pipe is over a half century old it is unsmoked in brand new pristine condition. The pipe comes with its original box which shows a little bit of wear and tear. This is a great collectible tobacco pipe as well as a great smoking pipe.
