Antique Smoked Amber Stem Meerschaum Pipe with Sterling Silver Trim -
A beautiful high glossy finish antique apple bowl meerschaum pipe with an oval shank is from the private collection of Irving Korn. This extremely rare pipe is one that any pipe collector would be proud to have in his collection or also enjoy smoking. Although the stem is chipped in one place it is pure amber which was used extensively in the 1800’s and definitely can be fixed by an experienced pipe repairman.
Also unique is that the band on the pipe is made of Sterling Silver! The gold stamp inside the case was the pipe maker’s logo from the 1800’s. The pipe comes in a custom fitted leather case with a snap closure. In the 1800’s very few men could own a pipe like this with such expensive extras!
Irving Korn bought this pipe in the mid 70’s in Istanbul from one of his carver’s very old father who was given the pipe to him by his father. Unfortunately the father was too old to remember the exact meaning but thought it had something to do with alchemy in the 1800’s (alchemy is a medieval philosophy and early form of chemistry whose aims were the transmutation of base metals into gold, the discovery of a cure for all diseases, and the preparation of a potion that gives eternal youth).
