African Meerschaum Lined Billiard Straight Stem Pipe - One of a kind extra large straight stem African pipe features a deep bowl lined with solid block African meerschaum. The pipe is a smooth finish with a light polish that accentuates the natural color and fine wood grain pattern. It is lightweight for its size and is perfect for the pipe smoker with prefers a large pipe. A solid metal fitting is in the long shank that attaches to a wide vulcanite saddle stem. The Kilimanjaro rhinoceros logo is stamped in white on the side of the straight black saddle stem.

Stamped "Kilimanjaro" with the model number 102 on one side of the shank and "Made in Tanganyika" on the other side, this is an authentic one of a kind African pipe that is truely a unique find.

In 1955 Kenyan businessmen from Nairobi established the Tanganyika Meerschaum Corporation after a meerschaum mine was discovered close to the surface on Mount Kilimanjaro. The meerschaum from this part of East Africa was known to be tougher, less porous and priced less than Turkish meerschaum. Tanganyika and Zanzibar merged and became known as Tanzania in October of 1964. The company closed soon after.

Although the pipe is over a half century old it is unsmoked in brand new pristine condition. The pipe comes with its original box which shows a little bit of wear and tear. This is a great collectible tobacco pipe as well as a great smoking pipe.
